Old and new friends

As the season begins to wind down, it seems that everything needs to get squeezed in before the great exodus from South Texas. It really seems strange that so many want to head back up North where the snowstorms are still going on, but the pull of home seems to increase as the days grow longer. Sometimes it is a bittersweet farewell as there are those who are not returning because of health or other reasons. It seems that every year new friendships are formed and the ever increasing circle of friends grows.

We did get another trip to RIN in Reynosa scheduled (and maybe another one if time allows) for people who were involved in the construction of the schools, and even those who were former chaplains at CHI. The weather was cold and rainy (yes, cold in Mexico, too) but the warmth of the kids made us all forget the outside temps.
Bob Johnson, former CHI Chaplain, and Lucian Schmidt, who helped with the school construction. They were amazed at the changes at RIN in just a few years.

first, a video before the tour. This is a new video - we have a copy, so ask to see it.

this teacher gathered her chicks for a class picture with Bob.

Fred and Belinda - our new little girl we sponsor, who is no quite so shy anymore

these kids are in the "wild" classroom - they go bananas every time we visit

This is little Angel, who with his 3 other brothers came here with scars on their backs and even their ankles where they were tied to their beds or someplace else. They are almost normal kids now - the emotional scars will probably last all of their lives.

Bob loved playing with the kids as much as they loved playing.

Our ladies bible study this year was phenomenal, to say the least. We are doing a Beth Moore study on living beyond yourself. It is a lot of homework - 5 days of at lest an hour of study and bookwork, but it a powerful study. Our thanks go our to Ali Artherholt who has encouraged us so far and inspired us to delve into the word. We need to know the truth, and the only way to know the truth is to read about it, and study it, understand it , and the accept the word of the Lord as truth. Then we know that we are indeed saved and our name is written in the Book of Life. "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to my Father except through Me."
John 14:6

As the year ends, many of us who stayed on the church board to help new Chaplain Bill get to know Alamo Rec Veh are going off the board in order to allow new and fresh members lead. I have been president for 7 years - it is way past time for me to step down. We have a meeting on Tuesday to talk to new candidates, select those we think are suitable for board membership, and then determine who the new officers will be. I feel relief that I am turning this position over to someone else, but then again, I know I will miss it.  Today the board had a luncheon with Chaplain Bill and Ali to say thanks for an exciting year as the church has gone through many changes, and to welcome them for another year. As Assistant Chaplains we will continue to support them however we can, especially encouraging them through prayer.

Chaplain Bill had a great message this morning regarding the lies of Satan which affect our lives. We believe these lies and they become a part of us for many years, perhaps all of our lives. We need to confess our sin of believing these lies, letting the power of God release us from these lies (you are worthless, it's all your fault, you can't trust your parents or spouse, your are ugly, etc.) and let His forgiveness wash these lies (sins) away - we also need to forgive those who caused these lies to become a part of us - then we can be free of our burdens.
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest". Matthew 11:28
