Alamo Texas

We finally arrived safely home (thanks for all the prayers for travel mercies) on Friday - it was such a relief to find everything fine and in order. After just putting away all of the meat we  processed while in Arkansas, we just stepped back and worked slowly at putting things away (did not finish until Saturday). We did have to stop at the store for breakfast groceries, but did no more than that.

We spent the past week at the Gee's in Joshua, Texas - not really doing anything special but just sort of relaxing before our trip back to Alamo. It seems that as we get older, the drive seems to get longer!! The entire family is so loving and accepting - we spent Monday at their daughter Michelle's home - just sitting by the pool, watching the kids and grand kids swim and enjoy the pool, while sipping  wonderful refreshing cooler of bananas, strawberries, and sprite. So very good and just hit the spot on a hot day. Their son-in-law, Alan, grilled supper, along with all sorts of wonderful sides. That evening we went to the fireworks in Joshua, a small town type display, but with all the ohhs and ahhs of a larger city. People everywhere are proud of the USA in the same way. Tuesday was another day of swimming and grilling, again with wonderful food and company.

It was so good to be back in our Texas church - it seems that wherever we attend services we are so very blessed to have great ministers with a wonderful message. Pastor Robert was ordained while we were gone - a great achievement for an amazing man of God. His message this morning was based on temptations which seem to strike at the worst time like at 10 PM and the urge for big bowl of ice cream. Do we decide what we want - can we create will or desire?? We can make a decision to rule over temptation. We never actually decide to want what is bad for us but we do so because we are broken. We are in sin which is the absence of perfection. Sin is a separation from God. Read today's Scripture: Romans 7:15-25. Read it slowly so you can absorb it's meaning. Sin is  reality - it is our basic desires which are bad for us - why - because we are indeed broken. The desire to do better is God's work in our life. Sin with Jesus in the picture has lost. Think about this - fleeing from sin is fleeing towards holiness. The potential for evil is always there but God's grace is greater than brokenness.

Live each day for all it is worth - don't worry about yesterday which is already gone  or tomorrow which is not here yet.
